What is the difference between 2CMand 3CM countertops?

The main difference between 2CM (centimetre) and 3CM countertops is the thickness of the material. 2CM is ¾” thick overall with a doubled 4CM lip on all exposed edges which provides a stronger visual for the countertop and also hides the sub decking that goes between the cabinet box and the stone. This plywood decking provides additional height and structure for the countertop and is either ⅝” (for traditional framed cabinets) or 3⁄4” (for european style flush/frameless cabinets) thick. For areas next to appliances – such as a stove or refrigerator – the edge is not visible and only requires a basic polish to remove any kerf marks and prevent scratching on appliances or pantry cabinets. 3CM material is 1 ¼” thick throughout and can be directly placed on top of the cabinets, no plywood necessary. 3CM countertops average out at 20% more expensive than 2CM if using prefabricated slabs, but some homeowners prefer to have a 3CM edge visible around their undermount sinks for a more luxurious look.
